Amber Ashley, a native of northern California, was inspired in the arts at a young age by her gifted artist mother, and by the exposure to the arts scene in San Francisco. As a girl, Amber also traveled all over the world, and she believes this has influenced her background in art, fashion and design.
Amber attended School of the Arts in San Francisco, where she developed her formal jewelry education. Although she was focused at the time on acting, vocal, stage design and fashion, she enrolled in a jewelry class, and a true creative passion was born. Amber learned various techniques including wax casting, finishing and stone setting. |
In 1983 Amber inherited her grandmother's Victorian hatpin collection. Very inspired by these works of art, she took to researching the market and found that hatpins were no longer manufactured in United States hat shops or boutiques. The result of her research sparked a line of more than 200 varieties of hatpins. She then established her jewelry company, Popinjay Accessories, in 1984, using the inspiration that embraces Victorian elegance, timeless beauty and heirloom quality.
Amber began selling her jewelry at art shows, historic events such as Renaissance fairs and the Dickens Faire, and then embarked selling on the National Trade Show Market in New York, Chicago and California, among others.
Another passion of Amber's has been collecting antiques and wearing vintage clothing. She has gradually moved her primary focus to getting younger generations excited about vintage fashions and repurposing antiques and collectibles. From her home base in northeast Ohio, Amber travels to clients looking to downsize or clean out clothing and accessories from their parents and grandparents. She loves taking items that may have been headed for a landfill and giving them a second lease on life! Amber still sets up at shows across the country, taking her vintage finds to excited crowds that are eager for a look that's new again.
